Who can open a PPF Account?
An individual can open a PPF account on own behalf and / or on behalf of a minor of whom he/she is the guardian.

How many PPF accounts an individual can open?
An individual can open only one PPF account on his / her own behalf.

What are documents required while openingĀ PPF account?

  • A recent passport size photograph
  • Identity Proof copy with original to verify (PAN Card, Driving License, Voter ID Card, Passport)
  • Address Proof copy with original to verify (Telephone Bill, Electricity Bill, Ration Card)

What is the interest rate offered through PPF?
PPF interest rate is notified by the Government of India in official gazette from time to time. The current interest rate effective from 1 April 2013 is 8.7% per year (compounded annually).

How PPF interest is calculated?
The interest on balance in your PPF account is compounded annually and is credited at the end of the year. Please note that the interest calculation is done every month: the interest is calculated on lowest balances in account between 5th and last day of the month. So to maximise the interest on your PPF investment, it is advisable that you invest before the 5th of any month.
