The annual Pandharpur Yatra to the famous Vithoba Temple at Pandharpur in Maharashtra is also famous as Pandharpur wari or ekadashi pandharpur wari and pandharpur ashadi ekadashi wari. Every year on the 11th day of the bright moon in the month of Aashaad many devotees reach the temple town of Pandharpur, to have a glimpse of Lord Vitthal. In 2017, the Pandharpur Yatra Palki of Tukaram Maharaj from Dehu, Pune started on 16th June 2017 and Sant Dnyaneshwar Palkhi from Alandi began June 17, 2017. Palkhi Yatra 2017 ended at Pandharpur on Ashadi Ekadashi.
Origins of this Wari Tradition: There is no definite information available on the origin of Wari tradition but it has been taking place for more than 700 years.
Sant Tukaram’s Palkhi procession starts from Dehu & reaches Pandharpur via Aakurdi, Pune. Lonikalbhor, Yavat, Varvand, Baramati, Indapur, Akluj & Wakhri respectively.
Sant Dnyaneshwar’s Palkhi starts from Alandi & reaches Pandharpur via Pune, Saswad, Jejuri, Lonand, Faltan, Natepute, Malshiras, Velapur, Shegaon & Wakhri to Pandharpur.
