Narayanpur

Narayanpur is around 35 Km to the south of Pune. It is famous for Lord Datta’s Temple and Narayaneshwar temple. Narayanpur is village of Sant Changdev. Pilgrims visiting here worship the old ‘Audambar’ tree. There is also an old temple of Narayaneshwar. Sculptures of this temple are said to be of ‘Yadav’ era.

One can reach Narayanpur either from Dive ghat and Saswad or from Katraj Ghat and Satara Road. Narayanpur is situated at the bottom of famous Purandar fort. Though the road to the temple is not good, still the trip is enjoyable because of the beauty of the nature.

Narayanpur Datta Temple (Ek Mukhi Datta Mandir)
Usually Lord Datta is shown having three faces those of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh (Shiva) but here the standing idol of Lord Datta has only one face. Here uou can see the Padukas of Lord Datta also.

Narayaneshwar Temple
Right next to the Datta temple, there is the beautiful Shiva Temple which is also known as Narayaneshwar Temple. This is very ancient Shiva temple and the gabhara has gupta Shiva Linga (hidden Shiva Linga). This shiva linga is covered by golden shiva-linga gifted to the temple by Shivaji Maharaj’s mother Jijabai.

Audumbar Tree
The Audumbar tree near the Datta Temple too is worshipped by the devotees. The holy tree (Audumbar Tree) is considered to be the most blessed tree by Datta. It is also said that those who see, touch, do pradakshina or meditate near the Audumbar Vriksha will be the most fortunate of all. You can see Audumbar Tree in the background of almost all pictures or paintings Lord Dattatreya and in premises of many Datta temples in India.

Narayanpur Balaji Temple
Balaji temple is replica of actual Tirupati Balaji Temple in Tirumala. The stone sculpture of the original Tirumala Tirupati temple has been mimicked in wood and painted in grey oil-paint here. The temple is a initiative by the Lord Venkateshwara Charitable and Religious Trust, a trust set up by the Venkateshwara Hatcheries corporate group.

The standing idol of Balaji is royal and awesome. If you visit quite early in the morning, you can see idol of Balaji in a matter of minutes whereas on a weekend or in the later half of the day, you have to wait for hours in a long queue. Surrounding area around main temple has small temples of deities like Krishna, Mahalakshmi, Padmawati etc.

The temple is very well maintained and also provides living rooms and kitchen facilities for visiting devotees.

  3. Hi all,
There is direct bus to temple available from Swargate (Pune) to Balaji Temple (Ketkawale),, From 0700, 0715, 0845, 0945 & 1045,
As my experience 0845 is good, you’ll reach around 1045, no big queue, will get Darshan in 20-25 minutes. Get prasad, and you can move to you have your free lunch offered by Trust. (Typical andhra Rice Sambar we’ll be available – taste is also good),,,,,,,,,,, (but don’t forget to take coupons from prasad counter which is inside the temple, they will issue you the same time while you take you laddu (prasad) – present this @ lunch counter then you will get your free food)

Now ,, back,,,, best option will be,
take any mode to come Kapurvol, just 4 km away. then in a minutes you will get direct bus to swargte……………

Direct bus is also available @ 1515 from temple to swargate .

  4. Just visited Balaji Temple Narayanpur. Lovely place very well maintained Very neat and clean – not only the temple, but the surroundings, Annadanam hall and chappal stands even toilets. Need not pay a single paise for anything . The temple is open all the time from morning 6 to evening 8 or so. No mobiles and cameras allowed inside the temple but we can lodge them for safe keeping near the entrance to the temple and take pics of the places outside the temple.
